Baking Competition Rules

SUBMISSION LOCATION:

GGD RESTORATION BOOTH

SHORTBREAD RULES:

In our Shortbread Competition, we have 2 categories, Traditional and Gourmet. Traditional Shortbread is the simple buttery, crumbly, basic, butter, sugar, flour cookie that we all know and love.

Gourmet Shortbread is the creative twist on the shortbread, taking the basic recipe and adding spices, glazes, and other bits and add-ins to make something very, very tasty. (Gourmet will also be judged on innovation)

Please bring your submissions no later than 10am on Saturday. Judging will take place at 11am and winners will be announced from Main Stage at 2pm.

Submissions will be judged based on appearance, texture, and flavor. Please have 3 full size pieces of shortbread to present to the judges (one for each judge about 2 to 4 bites for each portion)

There will also be a People’s Choice award. Please have 100 – 150 bite size pieces (1/2 inch), precut and ready to serve to the Festival Attendees.

SCONES RULES:

In our Scones Competition, we have 2 categories, Traditional and Gourmet.

Traditional is similar to what Americans know as a biscuit but it is more dense and crumbly and often paired with jam.

Gourmet Scones are a little more adventurous, sometimes even savory. The range of add-ins is limitless, from chocolate, fruit or other sweets to non-traditional add-ins like cheeses, meats, veggies, or nuts for a savory twist. (Gourmet will also be judged on innovation)

Please bring your submissions no later than 10:30 am on Sunday. Judging will take place at 11:30 am and winners will be announced from Main Stage at 2pm.

Submissions will be judged based on appearance, texture, and flavor. Please have 3 full scones to present to the judges (one for each judge about 2 to 4 bites for each portion)

There will also be a People’s Choice award. Please have 100 – 150 bite size pieces (1/2 inch), precut and ready to serve to the Festival Attendees
