OFFICIAL RULES AND INFORMATION FOR
THE DOUGLASS CUP PIPE AND DRUM COMPETITION

 

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, February 28, 2024.

No Field Entries.

$30 Late Entry fee added to normal registration fee.

Entry Fees:

   Solo Piping/Drumming (Grade I to IV) - Per      Event: $15

   Solo Piping/Drumming (Grave V Chanter/Drum Pad) – Per Event: $15

   Quartet Piping – Per Event: $30

   Pipe Band – Per Event: $45

   Service Band Competition: $45

 

Solo competitors may purchase one (1) additional adult admission tickets good for one day at a discounted rate of $5 each. Discounted tickets must be purchased at time of registration. 

Prizes:

Medals: 1st through 3rd soloist in each event (piping and drumming)

Trophies: Piper of the Day, Snare Drummer of the Day, Tenor Drummer of the Day, Bass Drummer of the Day by grade

Douglass Cup: Trophy awarded to overall band winner

Douglass Cup Service Band: Trophies awarded to 1st through 3rd place bands

 

Competition Rules

1. Entry Deadline is Wednesday, February 28, 2024. No Field Entries. Late entries through March 6 will be considered if space is available; late entry fee is an additional $30 plus normal registration fee. Contact Lori at shermancompetition@gmail.com with questions

2. Parking is free; registration payment will generate a receipt that you will use for gate entry.

3. No one may compete unless in appropriate Highland dress, including Kilt. EXCEPTION: Novice Practice Chanter/Drum Pad are not required to be in Highland dress.

4. Competitors must be ready when called to compete or they may be disqualified.

5. Solo Order of Play will be sent out prior to the event and posted at the Piping Registration Tent. Check in at the Piping Tent to get your competitor number, and with the Steward before your event. Be ready when called to compete.

6. Band draws will be sent out to band representatives prior to the event and posted at the Piping Registration Tent.

7. Band Travel Allowance is as follows:

First 3 bands traveling between 50 and 100 miles - $75

First 3 bands registered and traveling between 101 and 200 miles - $200

First 3 bands registered and traveling over 201 miles $300.

Travel allowances are determined by date of registration. Bands must participate in Opening Ceremonies/Massed Bands around 1 pm on Saturday and Closing Ceremonies around 2 pm on Sunday to receive travel pay.

8. Decisions of the Judges and Stewards are final. The Competition Committee reserves the right to alter or cancel any event.

9. The solo competition events are sanctioned through the EUSPBA. The Rules of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association will be the guiding authority to conduct Piping, Drumming and Band events.  All quartet and band events are not sanctioned but the Rules of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association will be used as a guide. The Contest Committee reserves the right to disqualify any competitor guilty of misconduct.

10. Emergency Services Competition

 

Guidelines:

Service bands must be

1) Comprised of active or retired law enforcement, or

2) Comprised of any public service agency, or

3) Sponsored in part or whole by a public service agency, or

4) Any organization that has a history of rendering honors for fallen law enforcement officers, public servants or military veterans.

***All band members must be members of the band that registers and on the roster. No

substitutes or drop in musicians are allowed to participate in a performance.

Minimum numbers for all Open Band Competitions (EXCEPT SERVICE BANDS): 5 Pipers, 2 Snares, 1 Bass (Tenors optional)

 

Quartets

1st Place $75

2nd Place $50

3rd Place $25

 

Pipe band competition events Saturday, 3-23-24, starting at 2:00 PM: Open Quick March Medley, Open 3-5 Minute Medley, and Service Band Medley.

Piping quartet competition events Sunday, 3-24-24, starting at 10:30 AM: Quartet 3-5 Minute Medley and Quartet Quick March Medley

Pipe band competition events Sunday, 3-24-24, starting at 1:00 PM: Open Mini-MSR and Open MSR.

Solo, Band, and Quartet entry fees are PER EVENT. Please select all events you, your band, or quartet wishes to compete in.

ABOUT
DOUGLASS DISTRIBUTING

In 1947 Humble Oil (later known as Exxon) established a railroad bulk plant in Sherman and Gainesville, Texas. On July 1, 1981 Bill Douglass bought this Exxon consignee in Sherman, Texas, including the local Exxon Transport Division, Exxon Tank Wagon Division, Exxon Lubricants Division, and Tires, Batteries & Accessories (TBA) Division. The resulting company was named Douglass Distributing.

The company now offers fuel, DEF, diesel, oil, lubricants, and propane throughout North Texas and Southern Oklahoma.
