Do you have a Celtic dog breed that you would like to bring to the 3rd Annual Sherman
Celtic Festival and Highland Games? If they act well in crowds and well socialized and fully vaccinated, they can
be entered in the Celtic Dog Parade. Click the button below to register.

Meet the Breed at Pup Tent Saturday March 21, from 10:30-11:00

Parade begins at 11:00. This is lots of fun for the dogs and spectators.

DOG TRICK COMPETITION RULES

The dog trick competition is an opportunity to highlight a unique trick either the handler and dog (team) or dog performs individually. The trick must be safe for the dog and handler and it must be taught and/or demonstrated in a positive animal welfare/husbandry manner without force, restraint, or punishment.

All entries must be received by March 21st, 2020. To register, click the button below.

A limit of 60 seconds per dog/team.  Buzzer will sound at 60 seconds.  Contest will begin at 1:00pm on Sunday March 22nd.  Please arrive at Pup Tent by 12:45 to check in.  

Prizes will be awarded for 1st 2nd and 3rd place!


MUSICAL SIT EVENT


For those of you with dogs that aren’t up for the trick competition, stay around for the Musical Sit game directly following.  Dogs will walk in a circle with their handler and have to “sit” when the music stops.  Last dog to sit is out.  The last remaining dog wins a prize!


Entry for all pet activities is free but all entries must abide by the parade rules:

RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. 1)  All beginner and experienced competitors are welcome. All participants and exhibitors will receive the best care and protection the surroundings will afford, but they are at all times subject to the owner’s risk.
  2. 2)  Sherman Celtic Festival reserves the right to make discretionary decisions and to interpret all rules and procedures at events.
  3. 3)  All competitors acknowledge by entering, their participation in the event is an acceptance for the use of their likeness, including but not limited to, photos and/or video footage for print or electronic media purposes.
  4. 4)  Registration:

Entry forms must contain complete information including dog’s name, breed, and age. All participants must purchase admission tickets to enter the Festival. 

  • Handlers must check in at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the competition or they will not be eligible to compete. 
    Handlers must be at least seven (7) years old to compete.
  • Dogs must be at least six (6) months old to compete.
  • Handlers must restrain and control their dog(s) at all times to maintain a safe competition
    environment for all teams, spectators and event participants.
  • 5)  Health/Injuries
    • Dogs must be current on vaccinations for distemper, DAPP vaccine (Distemper, Adenovirus,
      Parainfluenza, Parvovirus) and rabies or have equivalent proactive veterinary health records indicating distemper titers. Bordetella is recommended but not required due to proximity of multiple dogs. Additionally, dogs must be free from infections, parasites, contagious or transmissible diseases. 
    • Dogs in heat, injured or ill will not be allowed to compete 
       • Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet at all times (including in the kennel and potty areas); the only exception to this rule is when dogs are actively participating in a competition area.
  1. All other leads, including retractable leads, are strictly prohibited.
    Management/Staff will perform a roll call prior to the start of the competition session.
  2. 6)  Competition Order
• The competition order will be determined randomly and posted in the staging/registration area prior to the start of each competition session. It is the handler’s responsibility to know the team’s competition order.

Courtesy is appreciated! Be prepared to clean up after your pet.

Proceeds from the Sherman Celtic Festival and Highland Games benefit the Texoma Society of CELTS (Cultural Enrichment and Lasting Traditions) a non-profit organization, the Sherman Police Association, and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children.
